Conversations in Light with rapper/actor Jallal and award-winning filmmaker Joslyn Rose Lyons

Joslyn Rose Lyons: When we made Looking Glass, I sent you that narration, I had just read that book The Big Leap, that talks about taking that courageous step from your 'Excellence Zone' to your 'Genius Zone', it's finding that light, and not allowing the shadows, or as the book calls it the 'Upper limit problem' of a subconscious self sabotaging pattern, to show up in the way of your vision. How do you face those shadows, how do you keep going towards the light in the face of that fear/doubt?

Joslyn Rose Lyons

Jallal: Sometimes we have to put ourselves in uncomfortable positions in order to grow. We have to remove ourselves from our comfort zone to get to the genius zone by not boxing yourself in what you think will work. In order to do that we have to listen to what is being said to us. It goes back to those four pathways I was telling you about... Is it Divine Intervention? Is it from our own selves? Is it from the whispers of the shadows? or is it purely from our desires? And that's our base desires, food, water, sex, essentials, our animal instincst... how do you channel those, and how do you know which one is actually which? You think that those thoughts are actually you, but they are not you. You always have to choose the most hopeful thing, and the most hopeful thing is believing in yourself.

Joslyn Rose Lyons: When you said we have to listen, that reminds of me of what I was just talking about on a panel last night, how to keep our channels clear, to tune ourselves to be able to hear the divine messages that want to come through us, in order to be that vessel, we have to be mindful of our thoughts, our words, even the people we keep company with. That 'upper limit problem'/fear and doubt, can mask itself, those shadows can look like guidance at times. We have to do things everyday to keep our antenna lit, so that we can tune in to the higher frequency of light that is guiding us. As artists we have to practice getting out of our own way, in order for this same frequency to come through us. So we can be a vessel. How do you become a vessel of the light?

Joslyn Rose Lyons

Jallal: By always doing what's right. I become a vessel that way. Doing what's right is not always a hypothetical concept. Doing right is our natural state. Because our natural state already has a purity and an innocence in it. The only reason we lose that light is by going astray from our original disposition. It's by always going back and seeking that light because this world is designed to break your heart. Every time we go back to the light, that's the only way for us to keep sane. As an artist it's our obligation to be a vessel. By being in the public eye, it's now about what we do in the public, it's what we do in our private lives. Because what we do in private, is the light that will show up in public through our faces. We can't be hypocrites.

Joslyn Rose Lyons: Having vision is a responsibility, it carries weight, when I download an idea, a concept or vision comes to me, through me. I want to honor that light by sharing it, the light is mean tot shine. But we often, and this goes back to the upper limit problem of self sabotage, doubt that we deserve to shine, or that we can handle that level of light, to take our big leap to our Genius zone (as the book The Big Leap talks about) and knowing that light will attract. it How do we share our light, in the face of these shadows, fearlessly and courageously?

Jallal+Rapping.jpg

Jallal: By removing self-doubt. Doubt is a form of fear. That sadly is masked at times. We think that doubt is from us, but it's not from us. It's literally fed to us. We are constantly distracted by other people around us, and we look at other people as a measurement of where we should be at.

Joslyn Rose Lyons: I believe we should only compare ourselves to the last version of our best self, and compete to be brighter than that.

Jallal: At the end of the day the person you're trying to figure out, is yourself. And we can't reflect our journey onto others.

Joslyn Rose Lyons: So how do we shine the light? It's so easy to let that shadow/fear/doubt make you dim that light.

Jallal: By being unapologetically you. Shine! Shine! Shine!
